DVFiber picks Great Works Internet to expand broadband access

A group representing 24 communities in three Vermont counties announced it entered into a memorandum of understanding with internet service provider Great Works Internet of Biddeford, Maine, in partnership with ValleyNet of Royalton, to secure broadband access for every home and business in its district.
DVFiber, the Deerfield Valley Communications Union District, said its governing board unanimously approved the MOU at a special meeting Thursday.
“We are pleased to begin work alongside GWI to complete this vitally important work,” DVFiber Board Chairwoman Ann Manwaring said in a news release. “With this budding partnership, the vision of securing broadband access for everyone in our district is just that much closer to becoming a reality. We are fortunate to have funding from the [federal] American Recovery Act to accelerate our work.” ....

DVFiber seeks proposals for public/private partnership

DVFiber, a communications union district (CUD) consisting of 20 towns in southern Vermont, seeks to build a Fiber-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network to more than 10,000 unserved and underserved households and businesses. DVFiber recently released a Request for Proposal (RFP) in search of private sector partners to develop a public/private partnership agreement.
DVFiber envisions completing all connections by 2024 in two or three phases, with major progress to be made in the first year. The RFP provides information on member towns, details possible funding avenues identified by its governing board, and sets expectations for the resulting network. ....

New WiFi hotspot installed in Guilford

GUILFORD — Thanks to a project of the Vermont Public Service Department, Guilford residents and students now have access to a total of four WiFi hotspots.
The Vermont Public Service Department, in response to the COVID pandemic, recently teamed up with the Deerfield Valley Communications District (DVCUD) and local communities to secure installation of additional hotspots around the district. The most recent addition in Guilford is at the Guilford Town Office and is accessible from the parking lot. Other existing hotspots include the Guilford Free Library, the Guilford Volunteer Fire Department, and the Guilford Central School. ....
