150 Tonnes Of Salt Spread Across 300km Of Roads

Nine crews from Dublin City Council spread 150 tonnes of salt across 300 kilometres of the road network in the early hours of this morning.
Staff were out between 2.30am and 6.30am as part of the council s Winter Maintenance Plan in place ahead of the expected bad weather.
Management say the council s salt barns are full to capacity and gritting lorries, snowploughs and operational staff from the Roads Division are on standby.
Forecasts
Dublin City Council has been closely monitoring weather forecasts over the past few days and has a Winter Maintenance Plan in place for the bad weather expected over the next 24 to 48 hours. ....

Central Park closing Jan. 4 for repairs after flooding; campers moved to parking lot

Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps said the long-term future of the park, including whether to allow camping, will be decided by council.
About 31 tents have been erected on wooden platforms inside a fenced area of the Royal Athletic Park parking lot.
Since Dec. 23, volunteers with the Greater Victoria Coalition to End Homelessness, the Greater Victoria Extreme Weather Protocol and the North Park Neighbourhood Association have been helping people without homes move to Royal Athletic Park, providing them with new sleeping bags, cots, tents and tarps. Jen Wilde, co-ordinator with the Extreme Weather Protocol, said B.C. Housing staff have been on site checking people’s housing applications and have found housing for one person. ....

Tenters to move from Central Park to Royal Athletic Park due to flooding

Victoria Fire Department provided new tents and sleeping bags as well as cots to people in Central Park so they can transition to the hardscape of the Royal Athletic Park parking lot. Warm and dry supplies will also be distributed to people living in other parks, Helps said.
Helps said B.C. Housing and GSL Group, which operates the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre, are in talks about once again using the facility as a temporary shelter for people without homes. No decisions have been made.
The emergency-shelter option is available because the Western Hockey League is not expected to resume play this season. The arena was used as emergency shelter for 45 people from May to September. Many later moved to supportive-housing in former hotels such as Paul’s Motor Inn. ....

“This warms up my heart,” said Jason Bourassa, who is 43 and has been living in the park since June. He’s looking for a new place to live and a job but without a phone or internet, he said it’s a nearly impossible task.
