SABA: - The 2021 Book Week, an annual event organized by the Queen Wilhelmina Library, was officially opened at the Sacred Heart Primary School (SHS) on Monday morning, May 24 in the presence of students and invited guests.
This year’s theme is “The readers of today are the healthy minds of tomorrow,” created by grade 2 student Laila Hassell. This year’s Book Week design was made by form 5 students of the Saba Comprehensive School (SCS) Stephanie Hassell. Both students were recognized for their talents and received a prize from Island Governor Jonathan Johnson, who also performed the official opening of the 2021 Book Week. The Book Week Best Library Class trophy went to grade K2-B of teacher Antionette Granger. ....

SABA: - Nurses on Saba gathered at the Wesleyan Holiness Church for a church service on Wednesday morning, May 12 on the occasion of International Nurses Day 2021. Speakers Commissioner of Public Health Rolando Wilson, Director of the Saba Health Care Foundation (SHCF) Judith Meijer, Chairman of the SHCF Supervisory Board Sydney Sorton commended and thanked the nurses for their dedication and vital contribution to society.
The Nurses Day service started with an entrance procession song as the nurses, including several retired nurses, entered the church, followed by an opening prayer by Pastor Isaiah Liburd, an opening song, the Scripture reading by nurse Joyce Chichester-Smith and the reading of poems by nurses Sharen Johnson, Aleya Abraham, Sislene Matthew, Lillian Leverock and Aedy Levenstone. ....

St. Martin News Network - Construction new KNMI monitoring station well on its way.

SABA: - Works to construct a new monitoring station of the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) on the northern coast of Saba are progressing steadily. A team of Dutch military personnel, stationed in St. Maarten, has been carrying the materials along the North Coast Trail to the location on Grey Hill where a KNMI team is constructing the new monitoring station.
Military personnel on Thursday, April 8, ahead of time, completed the heavy task of carrying some 2000 kilograms of material on foot along the North Coast Trail, covering a difference in altitude of some 300 meters. On multiple trips per day, the men carried a number of very heavy items up the rough, mountainous trek to Grey Hill, such as a generator, a large satellite dish, the solar panels, and the casing for the electronics. They also carried multiple bags with concrete and a load of water, necessary to mix concrete for the construction of the monitoring station ....

St. Martin News Network - Polling station open, students observe elections.

SABA: -The polling station at the Fire Station in The Bottom opened on Monday morning. Eligible Sabans, 907 persons in total, can cast their vote for the Second Chamber elections at this location on Monday, March 15, Tuesday, March 16, and Wednesday, March 17. On Wednesday, the second polling station will open at the Eugenius Johnson Center in the Windwardside. Voting is from 7:30 am to 9:00 pm.
Island Governor Jonathan Johnson on Monday morning visited the polling station in The Bottom where he spoke with a small group of form 4 and 5 students of the Saba Comprehensive School who are observing the Second Chamber elections on all three voting days as part of their Social Studies class. ....
