New Delhi [India], May 25 (ANI/PRNewswire): Deakin University has announced it will provide financial support to the unfolding COVID-19 crisis in India and encourage its community and partners to do the same.
Following the Federal Government s $37.1 million Budget commitment to support the Indian response, Deakin s contribution will directly support non-governmental organisations and government hospitals by resourcing wards and Intensive Care Units (ICUs).
Organisations can make donations through Tata Trusts, one of Deakin s long-time partners, through their new initiative One Against COVID-19 . Funds will go to the areas most in need, specifically to aid with: ....

Indian outsourcing giant Infosys has joined forces with Australia’s Deakin University to develop a strategic action plan for research, innovation and skill development.
Under the collaboration, the organisations will work together, combining their strengths in emerging technologies and design to innovate at scale.

Deakin Uni launches Australia’s biggest on-campus solar farm
Deakin University has officially opened its $23 million renewable energy microgrid, which features Australia’s largest solar farm ever built on a university campus.
The official launch was held at Deakin’s Waurn Ponds campus in Geelong on April 22 and includes a 7MW array – the largest behind-the-meter PV generation system in Australia. It includes a staggering 23,000 ground-mounted panels, as well as 833 on campus rooftops. This was built in tandem with AusNet Services and Mondo Power.
Not only will this expediate the campus’ plans to become carbon neutral, but it also serves as a test pilot for industry-relevant research into the management of microgrids. Essentially, the data from the ongoing use of this system could be used to establish large-scale setups that could power entire cities. ....

Deakin Vice-Chancellor Professor Iain Martin was joined by Dr Alan Finkel AO, Special Adviser to the Federal Government on Low Emissions Technology, to turn the key on the industrial-scale Microgrid, the largest solar farm ever built on an Australian university campus. Professor Martin delivered an impassioned address, using American President John F Kennedy s Rice University speech in 1962 as an inspiration, likening NASA s Apollo program to the scale of ambition required to achieve global carbon neutrality.
