Each year, graduating students from Oregon Tech are selected to represent their college of study as commencement speakers at the annual ceremony. Representing the Class of 2021 are Josie Page Hanel, Christian Gomez, and Walker M. York for the Oregon Institute of Technology virtual commencement ceremony June 12, 2021.
Josie Page Hanel, Population Health Management, Outstanding Scholar
As a first-generation college student from Lakeview, Josie attributes her success to the support of her parents, grandparents, TOP advisors and her faculty members. Josie’s campus involvement includes being an active member of Kappa Xi Alpha sorority and participating in many campus and community service events. Josie also served as an officer in the Associated Students of Oregon Institute of Technology this year, held an internship with the Population Health ....

Perseverance is Key to Middlesex CC Business Major's Success

When Kimeang Chhay first arrived to the United States from Takhmao, Cambodia in 2018, she was enrolled in Dracut High School as a senior because of her age. Without being fluent in English, Chhay passed her Math and English MCAS exams, but struggled with the Biology test. Without it, she was unable to graduate from high school on time.
Chhay was already accepted at Middlesex Community College but needed her diploma in order to start taking classes for her associate degree. Through Middlesex s GED program, Chhay was able to improve her MCAS score to pass the test, earn her diploma and start regular classes. Despite the challenges that delayed her start, her perseverance kept her motivated. ....
