MILLER COUNTY, Ark. (KSLA) - April is designated as Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Arkansas law makers have taken a step to try and alleviate some of the trauma for victims of sexual assault.
Earlier this week, Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson made Senate Bill 308 a law. On hand for the signing was Amy Stanley of Texarkana. Stanley was among those working to push the bill through the state legislature.
“SB 308 took the power and gave it to the survivor,” said Stanley. ....

HONOLULU – Chief Justice Mark E. Recktenwald today appointed two individuals to fill judicial positions in the District and District Family Courts of the Second Circuit.
Christopher M. Dunn has been appointed to the District Court, replacing Judge Kelsey Kawano, who is now sitting on the Circuit Court bench. Dunn has 25 years of trial experience, handling a high volume of cases representing privately-retained and court-appointed clients in District, Family and Circuit Courts, and administrative proceedings. He has been in his own private practice on Maui for the past 18 years, and previously was in private practice in Massachusetts. Dunn is a graduate of George Washington University ....

Copeland sworn in as Circuit Judge

Justice Shawn Womack of the Arkansas Supreme Court presided over the swearing-in ceremony of Circuit Judge Johnnie Copeland on Jan. 1. Judge Copeland succeeds Judge Gordon Webb, who retired after a long and distinguished career in public service as both a prosecuting attorney and circuit judge.
Judge Copeland has practiced law in Mountain Home since 2006 and served as a deputy prosecuting attorney for the 14th Judicial District since 2015. In 2017, she was appointed Fulton County district judge by Gov. Asa Hutchinson. Judge Copeland will be hearing civil and domestic cases filed in Baxter, Boone, Newton and Marion counties. ....
