SNP MSP Annabelle Ewing has been elected to serve as the Scottish Parliament s Deputy Presiding Officer after a lengthy voting process. Ewing, the SNP member for Cowdenbeath, was elected to the role to assist Presiding Officer Alison Johnstone who became the first Green MSP to take on the role yesterday. After almost four hours of voting with 10 candidates putting their names forward for the role, Ewing emerged as the elected Deputy Presiding Officer with 64 votes. In the final round of voting, Ewing beat out Labour MSP Rhoda Grant (16 votes) and LibDem MSP Liam McArthur (44 votes). There was one abstention. Ewing was one of five SNP MSPs to put their names forward, joined by Clare Adamson, James Dornan, Bill Kidd and Stuart McMillan. ....

The 60MSs will also choose a Llywydd (Presiding Officer) who is usually from an opposition party, and a deputy Llywydd who is likely to be a Labour MS. Labour won the most seats in the election on May 6, taking 30 of the 60 seats and First Minister Mark Drakeford is expected to be named First Minister. ....
Posted: Tue 11th May 2021 First meeting of new Senedd will take place tomorrow – with Mark Drakeford set for First Minister role again The first Plenary meeting of the Sixth Senedd will take place at 3.00pm tomorrow. The first order of business for the 60 newly elected Members of the Senedd will be to elect a Presiding Officer (Llywydd) and Deputy Presiding Officer, followed by nominations for a First Minister – if the Senedd resolves to do so – with Mark Drakeford set to be First Minister once again. If there is only one nomination for First Minister the Presiding Officer will declare that Member to be the nominee, however if there is more than one nomination, Members will be asked to vote for their preferred nominee, by roll call and the winner decided. ....
