More than 150 nonprofit arts organizations across the state are receiving a piece of $9 million in grant money.

Ten months after COVID restrictions began, businesses and organizations across Connecticut are still struggling to get by during the pandemic. That is especially true for our state s arts community.
Now, a new grant program is helping those organizations.
The COVID Relief Fund for the Arts was set up by the governor s administration to provide support to the state’s arts community through the COVID pandemic.
Under the program, more than 150 nonprofit arts organizations across the state are receiving a piece of $9 million in grant money. ....

New London County arts organizations receive relief funding


For Rebecca Atkins, the director of Norwich-based Artreach, LLC,  an arts organization that works with people with mental health issues and discusses mental health issues through the arts, said the pandemic has made her work pertinent.
“Perhaps people that didn’t realize how important the arts are for maintaining your wellness and your wellbeing, are really getting it, and really needing the arts to feel better during this pandemic,” Atkins said.
Artreach and more than 150 other arts organizations across the state have received their share of $9 million in funding for the arts from the state’s COVID Relief Fund for the Arts, coming from the federal CARES Act and distributed by the state Department of Economic and Community Development. ....

A trio of arts organizations from New London and Norwich celebrated Wednesday the state grants they received to help them through their pandemic-induced financial struggles  even as they spoke about ongoing difficulties and ways they have had to pivot.
The leaders of the Garde Arts Center and the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, both in New London, and of Artreach in Norwich spoke at a virtual news conference held by Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz. It followed on the heels of a similar virtual news conference earlier this month focusing on the grant that went to Goodspeed Musicals.
The news conferences highlighted the grants given out through the state’s COVID Relief Fund for the Arts, which supports local arts organizations in the face of the pandemic’s destructive impact. ....

The Day - Goodspeed gets grant, but it and other theaters face challenging future - News from southeastern Connecticut


The $532,100 state grant that Goodspeed Musicals is receiving is immensely helpful while its stages in East Haddam and Chester are dark due to the pandemic. But neither Goodspeed nor other theaters are out of the woods yet.
That was the message from government and theater officials during a virtual news conference Thursday to highlight the grant that Goodspeed got through the state’s COVID Relief Fund for the Arts. Goodspeed was one of 154 nonprofit arts organizations in the state to receive funds through this program. A total of $9 million was awarded, with grants of more than $500,000 going to three venues: Goodspeed, Hartford Stage and Long Wharf Theatre. The list of organizations and grants were announced in November. ....
