Proposed inn spurs controversy in Pine

Plans to build a 20-room motel in Pine is drawing considerable interest from residents, evident during a recent meet and greet event last weekend as well as an earlier online meeting.
Two dozen residents came out for the meet and greet Saturday at the Rusty Pine Cone and 90 people attended a Zoom hearing Feb. 22 hosted by Gila Countyâs planning and zoning commission.
Everyone is interested to learn what property owner Marc Pendergraft has planned. Pendergraft has applied for a special use permit, the first step in the process to build a 20-room motel project on a commercially zoned property on Highway 87 in Pine. It is the same property where his parents Gene and Leigh Pendergraft own and operate the Rusty Pine Cone. ....

Fine artist finds his way in Pine-Strawberry

Templeton moved to Arizona in 1979, where he continued his art education at the University of Arizona.
âI just kept moving north,â he said, finally landing in Pine about 18 years ago.
He bought a âhandymanâs specialâ home, as he described it, brought it from a run-down shack to a quaint rustic cabin, then he built a tiny chapel on his property
Templeton was transitioning â leaving a fast-paced and wild life for the peace and inspiration found in Pine-Strawberry. His goal was to be an artist full-time.
âI had to protect the investment in myself,â he said. âIâve learned Iâve got this gift.â ....

Getting in the holiday spirit in Pine

This is the last weekend to meet with Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Rusty Pine Cone, 3788 N. Highway 87 in Pine. They will be out from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Other kid friendly activities planned include a chance to shop with the elves. On special times there will be performances by the Singing Sisters, miniature horses to pet and pony rides as well. Bring your young ones and your young at heart for some Christmas joy.
