It’s not the dancer-choreographer’s first time opening a dance school. Garner has taught thousands of students and even ran her own dance academy in Turks and Caicos. Since moving to the Orlando area in 2010, though, Garner knew something was missing. So, when the perfect location for a dance academy just minutes from her home came available, she knew it was the perfect time for the start of something new.
BORN TO DANCE Garner hails from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and she began dancing around age 3 because her mother also was a dancer. In Brazil, most of Garner’s dance teachers were Russian, so she was raised with the Russian technique. ....
Wizard of Oz staged by Saint Augustine Ballet at Flagler College Local high school student Jolynne Waldner plays Dorothy From Staff Reports Saint Augustine Ballet will present the Wizard of Oz during two performances on Saturday, May 22, 2021, in Lewis Auditorium at Flagler College, 14 Granada St., downtown St. Augustine. Show times are 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Young Dorothy Gale, played by local high school student Jolynne Waldner, and her dog Toto are swept away from their Kansas farm and plopped down in an otherworldly place called Oz. She offends one witch, is befriended by another and, after collecting a trio of oddball sidekicks, heads off to the Emerald City so that the all-powerful Wizard of Oz can help her go home. ....
Nights of Lights Daily through Jan. 31, 2021: The City of St. Augustine glows with more than 3 million white lights during the 27th annual Nights of Lights an event that was recognized by National Geographic as one of the Top 10 light displays in the world. The lights come on at sunset every evening. There are many options for viewing the lights, including driving through in your own vehicle (we recommend weeknights, and in January, for less traffic congestion). From trolley rides, by helicopter, on boat tours, horse-and-carriage rides, pub crawls and food tours see the city in many ways, all lit up during the holiday season. St. Augustine Record Wooden soldiers march on The pandemic has been unsuccessful in shutting down our beautiful city’s Nights of Lights. It also fell short in its quest to cancel St. Augustine Ballet’s annual production of “The Nutcracker.” This is the 12th consecutive year the ballet will be performed by an array of dedicated local young people (and a handful of oldsters) who began rehearsing in August. Tickets are limited because of auditorium social distancing but the good news is they are still available for each of the scheduled performances this coming weekend. It will all take place at Flagler College’s Lewis Auditorium in downtown St. Augustine. Show times are 7 p.m. Friday, December 18; 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, December 19; and 2 p.m. Sunday, December 20, 2020. ....
