Troop member becomes a U.S. citizen

Recently members of Boy Scout Troop 140 Saint Mary Magdalen Church, Oakville celebrated one of its members becoming a United States citizen.
Mary Jane Concepcion of Watertown was summoned to Immigration Court in Hartford and thought she was headed to another interview. To her surprise her appointment was a swearing in ceremony. Originally from Baguio City, Philippines Mary Jane migrated to this country for a better job opportunities. Her path to citizenship began over 16 years ago. During that time, she has raised two children born in the United States, Marcus and Matteo, who are members of Boy Scout Pack and Troop 140. Mary Jane has been a driver and leader on Scout trips to Niagara Falls, Philadelphia, Gettysburg, New York, Washington D.C. and many others. Her reason for wanting to be part of these trips was to learn as much as she could about the United States. She told Scouts standing there that day with other new American citizens, she felt like ....

Boy Scout Troop works to keep their environment beautiful

On a gorgeous sunny Saturday, members of Boy Scout Troop 140 Saint Mary Magdalen Church in Oakville spent the day cleaning their adopted section of the Naugatuck River. The Scouts collected over 20 large bags of litter, planted plants, cleared trails, cleaned and did maintenance on the over 60 Blue Birds house they have placed along the river.
The scouts observed plenty of wildlife along the river and were impressed by the number of trees the beavers had felled then dragged to river to construct their lodges. Over the years the scouts have wrapped many trees with wire to deter the beavers from felling the larger trees. ....
