Local chapter members and their families will get a chance to enjoy free entry to the YMCA all week.
Currently, there are about 100 AmeriCorps members stationed in the Duluth area that work in many different fields, including helping in local schools.
“We have 45 members in the Duluth schools that are helping with reading and math skills. During distance learning, they have been helping kids stay on track and keep up with their homework,” said Alice Werle, the True North AmeriCorps Director. ....

2020-21 KIDS PLUS Youth In Philanthropy Board. The Board is made up of middle school and high school students from across northeastern Minnesota who review and make grantmaking decisions with guidance from volunteer adult mentors. The grants the students award, up to $1000 each, support school and community projects that are planned and developed by children and youth in northeastern Minnesota. DULUTH, Minn.- This week is the last for the Duluth Area Family YMCA’s Meal Kit Distribution Program, which donated thousands of meals to people in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Leadership with the YMCA said since March of this year they have given out more than 45,000 meal kits at the Downtown Duluth YMCA, Gary New Duluth Recreation Center, Harbor Highlands Community Center, and Essentia Wellness Center in Hermantown.
The meal kits included fruits, vegetables, boxed and canned foods, and a $15 meal voucher to Super One. ....
