Thanks to some new software, those calling 911 in Des Moines County might get their help a little faster.
DesCom director Shanna Krogmeier said the public safety answering point has been working recently from a new Computer Aid Dispatching
It s an upgrade to all of our maps . the entering of calls, that sort of thing, Krogmeier said.
Iowa has been attempting to get every dispatch center on a similar system for a long time. A year ago, DesCom migrated its phone service to what was being offered by the state.
It s a part of the move to the Iowa Communications Network. The network has hubs all over the state and each services a different region. DesCom s nearest hub is at Southeastern Community College. ....

Burlington Civic Music travels deep into the heart of Texas for their final two shows of the season when they bring the FLY Dance Company out of Houston this Thursday and the Texas Tenors on May 15.
FLY Dance Company, aka the Gentlemen of Hip-Hop, bring their stunning theatrical dance show to Burlington s Memorial Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. today. The show is sponsored by Southeastern Community College.

Daniel Pappas to create original electronic music for saxophone live at SCC

An electronic music concert is scheduled at Southeastern Community College for 6 p.m. Friday in the Little Theater on SCC s West Burlington campus.
Dr. Daniel Pappas will perform original music for saxophone.
Pappas is a music instructor at SCC since 2019 and is helping to expand the college s music programming with the introduction of digital production classes starting this fall. Tonight s performance will be a taste of what is to come for his students.
And talk about a live performance: Pappas composes his music in real time.
Pappas also will talk about how musicians are digitally altering the sound of acoustic instruments in today s music scene and will give a brief demonstration of his gear, as well as projecting an overhead video of it during his performance. ....
