Women, People of Color Usher New Political Era in San Diego

It’s a new day for women and people of color in San Diego politics, as newcomers step into elected positions throughout the County.
Jill Galvez, who has lived in Northwest Chula Vista for more than 26 years was recently elected to the Chula Vista City Council to represent Council District 2, which has some of the City’s oldest neighborhoods including the historic downtown Chula Vista and the Bayfront.
Galvez commented on why she decided to run for office, “Chula Vista is the best place on earth to live, raise a family and retire. I am determined to work hard for our community to make good things happen and make our neighborhoods proud.” ....

New Southwestern College president focus on inclusion and helping students amid the pandemic

Among the priorities of Southwestern College next president/superintendent are to create a more welcoming environment on campus and to encourage students not to abandon their academic goals amid the difficulties generated by the pandemic.
Mark Sánchez was recently selected by the Southwestern College Governing Board to replace Superintendent Kindred Murillo, who is retiring in March.
Sánchez now serves as assistant superintendent/vice president of Student Success and Support Programs and College Centers at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo.
In his more than 20 years of experience, he has put in place programs that promote equity, diversity, and inclusion among students and employees. ....
