ALBANY, Ga. âÂ Southwest Public Health District 8-2 announces that individuals can now have their choice of vaccines available through county health departments in the 14-county district.Â
In keeping with the April 24 decision by the CDC and FDA, Southwest Public Health lifted the temporary pause it placed on administering the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, the health district said in a press release. Currently, health departments across the district are administering Moderna and Johnson & Johnson and individuals can choose whichever they prefer. Moderna requires two shots, about a month apart, and Johnson & Johnson is a one dose vaccine.
âInitially, the Moderna supply was much more plentiful, and we tried to reserve the one dose Johnson & Johnson vaccines for offsite vaccinations at schools and large businesses, and for the homebound,â said Dr. Charles Ruis, health director. âWeâre pleased to say that our inventory ....

ALBANY, Ga. â Following a thorough safety review, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the CDC, and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices have determined that the recommended pause regarding the use of the Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine in the U.S. should be lifted.
As of April 28, the Southwest Public Health District resumed the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine for Georgians aged 18 and older, said Dr. Charles Ruis, health director, Southwest Public Health District 8-2.Â
âBecause our supply of that vaccine tends to be lower than our Moderna inventory, it is reserved for those individuals best served by a single dose option,â he said, such as those vaccinated on site at schools and businesses as well as those who are homebound. ....

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - One year ago, cases of the coronavirus began to emerge in the Southwest Georgia Public Health District (SWHD).
Looking back, Dr. Charles Ruis with the Southwest Public Health District said these cases were just the beginning of the pandemic in our area, and the start of our very own “Ground Zero.”
“It was the second week of March, early in the second week of March, we realized that someone had been an inpatient at Phoebe, who had had COVID. That was a huge shock. But that was just the beginning of many shockwaves that would come to us,” said Ruis. ....
