With emphasis on community safety and threat of higher fine, Edmonds police see fewer fireworks calls this year

July 4th fireworks-related calls to Edmonds police were down significantly this year compared to a year ago, and police believe that an increased emphasis on community education coupled with the threat of a $500 fine may have made a difference.
During an approximate 24-hour period starting early morning July 4 through early July 5, police received a total of 48 fireworks-related complaints. That compares with 83 calls during the same time period in 2020, Edmonds police spokesperson Sgt. Josh McClure said.
“We made a concerted effort to put out education all week long and really partnered with the (South County) fire district to share messaging about promoting safety and preventing fire and injuries,” McClure said. Police placed a special emphasis on fireworks safety, and added extra patrols to address unlawful fireworks ....

St. Alban's Church to host another neighborhood food drive July 10

St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Edmonds will hold another drive-thru food drive on Saturday, July 10 from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m. The church has continued to hold drives to support local food banks.
Recommended items include non-perishable food such as soups, tuna, peanut butter, dry pasta and similar items to help those in need. Diapers and infant formula are also always appreciated. Cash and checks can also be made, with checks made payable to “Food Bank.”
As in the past, St. Alban’s parishioners and other helpers will be on hand at the church, located at 21405 82nd Pl. W. near the Edmonds Five Corners intersection, to accept donations. All staff will be observing current COVID-19 prevention protocols, and contributors are also encouraged to remain in their cars and wear masks. ....

Redford, Farmington Hills intersections among state's most dangerous

Drivers beware.
Michigan Auto Law, a law firm specializing in car, truck and motorcycle accidents, released its annual list of Michigan s 20 most dangerous intersections. Intersections in Commerce Township, Redford Township and Farmington Hills made the top 10.
Martin Parkway at Pontiac Trail in Commerce was named number four, Schoolcraft Road at Telegraph Road in Redford clocked in a number five, and 14 Mile Road at Orchard Lake Road took the seventh spot.
The list is based on crash data from the Michigan State Police Criminal Justice Information Center.
“Our goal is driver safety,” said Steven Gursten, president of Michigan Auto Law. “We give drivers this information so they can plan alternative routes if possible, and to be aware of the extra caution needed when driving in these areas.” ....
