Lawmakers see significance of cannabis industry

Legislators passed a raft of bills dealing with the cannabis industry during the 2021 session.
While the most sweeping and controversial of the bills, HB21-1317, put additional constraints on medical marijuana sales, several other bills were designed to bolster the industry.
With sales that topped $2.19 billion in 2020, âwe need to recognize that the Colorado cannabis industry is entering a competitive phase with other states,â said Rep. Marc Snyder (D-Dist. 18).
âIf you look at the history of Prohibition and alcohol, it got to around this point where roughly 20 states or more were just not enforcing the federal prohibition any more, and thatâs when Amendment 21 repealed Prohibition.â ....

SOUTHERN COLORADO â A bill introduced in Colorado s state legislature could enact new regulations on THC concentrates for both medical patients and recreational consumers.
HB21-1317 will go to the Committee on Finance on Thursday, after passing unanimously out of the Public and Behavioral Health and Human Services Committee this week.
In a draft of the bill that was circulated earlier this year, a 15% potency cap on THC products was proposed. Since then, the bill has been dramatically revised. A potency cap is no longer included. ....

Colorado Lawmakers Want to Restrict Medical Marijuana Access and Concentrate Sales

A new bill proposed by Alec Garnett, Colorado s Speaker of the House, calls for more packaging restrictions for commercial marijuana concentrate and tighter rules for medical marijuana patients and physicians, including a required THC dosage amount and tracking system for patient purchases.
After months of negotiations around limiting the potency of legal marijuana products, late last week lawmakers and a powerful portion of the pot industry reached a compromise bill. And while that proposal doesn t include a potency limit, it does contain a new set of guardrails, studies and tracking provisions intended to reduce youth marijuana use and diversion to the black market. ....

Colorado Bill Could Doom Legal Marijuana Industry If Passed

A bill floating around the Colorado Legislature would doom the state s marijuana industry if it passed. And while the chances of that bill passing are slim it hasn t even been introduced its mere existence could signal the start of a battle over the potency of commercial pot products.
The bill, drafted by state Representative Yadira Caraveo, would ban any form of legal marijuana, recreational or medical, testing over 15 percent THC. It also calls for a number of restrictions to the state s medical marijuana program, including a requirement that medical marijuana patients only be allowed to purchase a pre-designated dosage and allotment of certain products decided by a physician, similar to a drug prescription. ....
