Drink driver from Weymouth crashed after row with girlfriend

A DRUNK teenage driver from Weymouth failed to stop after crashing into a parked car when he got behind the wheel following an argument with his girlfriend, a court heard.
Prosecuting, Charles Nightingale told Weymouth Magistrates Court that shortly after midnight on June 27 a police officer watching traffic on the A354 Weymouth Relief Road had their attention drawn to 19-year-old Reed Russell s car due to significant noise.
The officer saw that Russell s Blue Volkswagen Passat was significantly damaged, with smoke coming from the vehicle and parts of the car dragging along the ground.
The court heard that Russell, of Goldcroft Road, Weymouth, had crashed into a parked Vauxhall Meriva on South Court Avenue in Dorchester and drove off, leaving part of his vehicle at the scene of the crash. ....

Dorchester Town Council to question lack of action on parking


THE Highways director for Dorset is to be asked to appear before Dorchester Town Council to explain what his department is doing to improve roads and paths in the county town.
The town’s planning and environment committee heard that since Dorset Council came into being more than a year ago a local committee to push forward improvements has been abandoned.
Town and unitary councillor Andy Canning, who used to chair that committee, said he saw little chance of it being re-started but said that there was projects still needed to improve safety and tackle pollution.
The town planning committee agreed to invite highways director Matthew Piles to a town council meeting to explain what, if anything, is being planned to improve the town’s road, path and cycleway networks. ....
