As July winds down and August beckons, a new school year is upon us. Therefore, I would like to give you a preview of the 2021-2022 school year by highlighting some of the topics below…
2021-2022 Sports Calendars in Place – Three seasons of sport, full regular seasons, Southern Section Championships and CIF Regional and State Championship opportunities are all on schedule to begin as originally planned. After all that we have been through, it is gratifying to be able to state that fact as we embark on the upcoming school year. Reminder, individual schools/school districts/private schools still have the sole responsibility for hosting athletic contests on their campuses following California Department of Public Health and local county health department guidelines for capacity limits, social distancing, mask wearing, etc. ....

Alia dominates Southern Sectional Championships with 4 gold medals

Four-time Jamaican Olympian Alia Atkinson, who trains with South Florida Aquatic Club, dominated the split-site Southern Sectional Championships with four gold medals.
The meet was contested at two sites - Coral Springs and Sarasota - from February 11-14. Results were combined for overall rankings and team scoring.
Site One, located in Sarasota, Florida, had the better performances in the distance events, while Site Two, in Coral Springs, led the way in the sprint races.
On Friday, Atkinson showed that she is rounding back into Olympic form in the 100m breaststroke, her best Olympic event.
With the Tokyo Olympics about five months away, the 32-year-old won the 100m breaststroke in 1:08.46, following two gold medals on Thursday s opening day. ....
