MRS Lieselotte Gisela Harries, of Main Street, Pembroke, died peacefully on February 24, 2021.
Affectionately known as Lotti, she was born in Krefeld, Germany in 1926 and was raised with her two brothers Stefan and Wilhelm.
She trained as a German/ English translator, before working as a nurse during the Second World War, meeting her future husband David Harries, a serving soldier in the British Army.
They married in Pembroke Dock, which was the home of her husband’s side of the family, and then moved to their new home at Allenbrook Cottage in Dale to raise a family, and assist in the running of a market garden business. ....

Ipads given to patients suffering Covid-19 restrictions

Student nurses have raised £2,400 for the South Pembrokeshire Hospital in Pembroke Dock. The money raised has come from an online raffle competition, and a £500 donation from the Milford Haven Port Authority.
The nurses which study in Swansea joined together with the intention of raising £1,000 to buy more ipads, as there were only a couple in the Sunderland Ward that were in high demand. The idea was that with the use of more ipads it would be easier for the patients to contact their families.
One of the student nurses Shannon said We wanted to help because some patients hadn’t been able to contact their family since the pandemic started . Further mentioning that they were thrilled to have exceeded their target, and were happy to do something practical for the hospital. ....

Children's art brightens up Christmas for patients on Sunderland ward at South Pembs Hospital

Children from Pembroke Dock and surrounding areas rose to the challenge when they were asked to cheer up Sunderland Ward at South Pembrokeshire Hospital for Christmas. Ward administrator Claire Lee knew that patients in the hospital would miss out because Covid-19 regulations prohibited the use of festive decorations on the wards - so instead the team put a shout-out on Facebook asking local youngsters to send them some Christmas-themed artwork instead.
The response was outstanding, said Claire.
We had an overwhelming response from the children and their families, schools and also businesses too.
But too many of the pieces of work we received didn t enclose an address so we have not been able to write a thank you note, so we just all want to thank everyone that sent in a picture. ....
