Dunedin Countdown shopper reveals horror of supermarket stabbing frenzy

A shopper who witnessed a man allegedly carry out a wild stabbing rampage inside a supermarket has told of the horrific moment she and the accused came face to face.
The 42-year-old man allegedly stabbed four people in the attack at a Countdown supermarket in Dunedin on New Zealand s South Island about 2.30pm on Monday afternoon.
After being restrained by customers and then police, the man was arrested and charged with the attempted murder of two men and two women - two of whom were Countdown employees.
Three of the injured are in a serious but stable condition, while the fourth is in a moderate condition. ....

Police will provide more information on a stabbing rampage at a Dunedin supermarket that left four people injured at a press conference on Thursday evening.
The incident, which saw a man enter the Countdown on Cumberland St wielding a knife in each hand, took place just before 3pm.
Southern District Police Commander Superintendent Paul Basham will speak at a media stand-up from 5:15pm.

Three Critically Injured After New Zealand Supermarket Stabbing Attack
Three people are in critical condition after a man allegedly stabbed several individuals in a supermarket in Dunedin, in New Zealand’s South Island on Monday.
Witnesses say they heard loud screaming and saw a man holding two knives before injuring four people, three of whom have been admitted to intensive care.
Two supermarket employees were among the victims.
Southern District Police Commander Superintendent Paul Basham told reporters those in critical condition would undergo surgery later today.
The incident occurred at Countdown Supermarket, a subsidiary of Australia’s Woolworths.
Basham said some of the victims were attempting to restrain the man and stop him from injuring more people. ....

University of Otago Vice-Chancellor Professor Harlene Hayne is pleased that Police have made an arrest in relation to the security threat that led to the postponement of graduation ceremonies this month.
Southern District Police Commander Superintendent Paul Basham has announced this morning that a 22-year-old woman has been charged with threatening harm to people or property. She is due to appear in the Auckland District Court today.
I am relieved there has been an arrest in relation to the security threat, Professor Hayne says.
I am extremely disappointed that these actions resulted in graduation ceremonies for more than two and a-half thousand graduands and their whÄnau being postponed. ....
