Pella City Council Approves Contract for Wonder Spelen

The Pella City Council approved a contract for the Wonder Spelen all-inclusive playground project with Hooyer Construction of Pella at their meeting Tuesday. A bid package including two alternates will total $1,182,072, with the City of Pella handling operations of the upgrades at Kiwanis Park after construction and funding up to $320,000, with Wonder Spelen funding the rest.
The council also amended the Urban Renewal Plan with Lely North America for their new headquarters and set the maximum property tax rate for fiscal year 2022 at $10.20 per $1,000 of valuation for the 20th straight year.
Public hearings were scheduled for March 16th to issue $4.1 million in financing for infrastructure improvements tied to the Lely project and conversion of 218th Avenue south of Neil Drive from gravel to pavement. ....

Pella City Council Receives Budget Preview

The Pella City Council received a presentation about the upcoming fiscal year budget following their regular meeting Tuesday.
An overview of upcoming major projects was also given, which includes completion of Pella Fiber, the ongoing planning for the South Central Regional Airport, infrastructure upgrades throughout the Central Business District–including replacement of sewer lines in the Oost Port Alley, renovation or new construction for the Pella Community Center, and Cole Commons, which is a proposed beautification project along Oskaloosa Street.
City administration also reviewed several projects made for the current fiscal year, which included some of the impacts expected due to COVID-19 and other factors. Hotel/motel tax, the indoor/outdoor aquatic center, and golf course are all expected to take hits this year however, $465,000 in CARES Act Funding and Local Option Sales Tax are anticipated to lead to slight revenue growth to counteract some of those losses.
