Report Lists Rural Hospitals At Risk Of Closing

There are several factors behind the financial struggles rural hospitals face right now, according to Harold Miller, CEO of the Center for Healthcare Quality and Payment Reform. They include increased costs to fight the pandemic, decreased money coming in from patients who are putting off doctor visits, and small hospitals that earn less per patient from private insurers than their urban counterparts,
“Most rural hospitals, even if they’re making profits, are making very small profits and typically do not have significant reserves in place,” Miller says. “And the hospitals that we’ve identified as being at risk, are ones that have been losing money for several years.” ....

PORTLAND, Ore. – Oregon Health Authority reported 1,282 new confirmed and presumptive cases and 35 new deaths on Tuesday.
The state has seen more than 105,000 cases since the start of the pandemic, and the death toll is now 1,382.
Today’s new cases include the following: Baker (9), Benton (10), Clackamas (168), Clatsop (2), Columbia (11), Coos (12), Crook (7), Curry (4), Deschutes (52), Douglas (6), Grant (1), Hood River (20), Jackson (63), Jefferson (20), Josephine (4), Klamath (23), Lake (2), Lane (85), Lincoln (6), Linn (32), Malheur (17), Marion (161), Morrow (4), Multnomah (258), Polk (34), Tillamook (12), Umatilla (49), Union (10), Wasco (5), Washington (153), Wheeler (1) and Yamhill (41).
Hospitalizations are slightly down over yesterday but still high at 524 across the state and 119 of those in intensi ....

PORTLAND, Ore. – Health officials reported 1,282 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, pushing the state’s total to more than 105,000 identified cases since the pandemic began.
The Oregon Health Authority also reported 35 more COVID-19 deaths. The state’s death toll sits at 1,382.
The OHA said it has administered just over 7,200 first doses of the vaccine at hospitals and long-term care facilities across the state.
The latest coronavirus numbers come as Oregon Governor Kate Brown held a press conference on the state’s progress with a COVID-19 vaccine. ....
