What Are the Differences Between the Chevrolet Equinox and the Chevrolet Traverse?

Chevrolet’s two biggest-selling SUVs are the 2021 Equinox and the 2021 Traverse. At first glance, they’re quite a bit alike. Look closer, though, and quite a few differences will come to light. If you’re thinking about purchasing either of these Chevy SUV models, here’s a look at all the ways they contrast with each other.

Size, space, and seating
Classified as a midsize SUV, the Traverse is easily the bigger of these two vehicles. Along with being nearly 2 feet longer, the Traverse is also wider, taller, and heavier than the compact Equinox. This extra size translates into more space for passengers and cargo inside the Traverse.

2021 Chevrolet Traverse Midnight Edition
One of the most popular Chevrolet special edition packages is the Midnight Edition. Offered on no less than eight 2021 model year Chevy’s, the Midnight Edition stays true to its namesake with a host of dark aesthetic enhancements, including things like black wheels, a black grille, and black trim, all of which is matched to black paint for a cohesive color treatment.
Chevrolet Expands Availability of Popular Trims and Packages

Based on customer demand, Chevrolet has decided to broaden the availability of the Midnight Edition, Sport Package, and RS trim level to include some of the brand’s most popular SUVs.

The Midnight and Sport package have been pretty successful, prompting Chevy to expand their availability. For instance, about 20 percent of all Trax models sold are equipped with one of these bundles. Given those sales figures, Chevy decided to provide drivers with the option for a Sport- or Midnight-edition Traverse, too.
The Midnight variant will be available for both the LS and LT trim levels. Based on a Mosaic Black Metallic Traverse, this package adds blacked-out badging, wheels, and roof rails, along with a Black Ice grille. The 2021 Chevrolet Traverse has received a new Midnight Edition Package that swaps some of the crossover’s chrome exterior trim pieces for gloss black-painted parts.
The new Midnight Edition “offers an all-black approach to the Traverse’s LS and LT trims,” Chevy says and includes a Mosaic Black Metallic exterior color, black ice grille, black-painted aluminum wheels, black Chevy bowtie emblems, black badging and black roof rails.
2021 Chevy Traverse with Midnight Edition Package
Chevy already offered a similar Midnight Edition Package on the Equinox and Trax crossovers, but after seeing strong customer response to the blacked-out cosmetic package, it has decided to expand the availability to the Traverse as well. It has also added a new Traverse Sport Edition to its portfolio for 2021, which has the same black exterior trim but can be ordered in any Traverse exterior color rather than just Mosaic Black Metallic.
