In what could prove to be a big win for the government s Make in India push, Elon Musk-led SpaceX is planning to join hands with Indian companies to locally manufacture satellite communications equipment, including antenna systems and user terminal devices, reports
Economic Times.
The development comes at a time when SpaceX is gearing to roll out its high-speed satellite broadband services in India next year. The company s director (market access with the Starlink program) Matt Botwin said, SpaceX is excited to find ways to work together with the Indian industry for manufacturing products for its Starlink devices. ....

The story so far: Tuesday saw the end of India’s first auction of telecommunications spectrum in five years, with the government generating a revenue of ₹77,815 crore from the exercise. Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio accounted for close to 60% of the spectrum bought, followed by Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea. On offer was over 2,308 megahertz (MHz) of spectrum valued for the auction by the government at ₹3.92 lakh crore, and bids were successfully received for 37% or 855.6 MHz. The auction lasted less than two days. ....

PM-WANI: Government To Increase Wi-Fi Hotspots Across India To 20 Lakh By The End Of 2021

The central government is planning a four time increase in public Wi-Fi hotspots across the country by the end of 2021 through the Prime Minister Wi-Fi Access Network Interface (PM-WANI) scheme,
Economic Times reports.
The registrations for the applications to offer these services will be rolled out in the first week of January.
“C-DoT, the technology development centre of the DoT, is working to make ‘Wi-Fi access boxes’ widely available at around half the market price and we should open the registration process by the first week of next year,” said Telecom Secretary Anshu Prakash. ....
