MUMBAI: Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has resigned from his post, hours after the Bombay High Court asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the corruption allegations levelled against him by former Mumbai Commissioner of Police Param Bir Singh, a top Nationalist Congress Party leader said here on Monday.
Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has appointed senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader, ex-Speaker and Labour Minister Dilip Walse-Patil as the new Home Minister.
The CM also tweaked his Cabinet by handing over the Labour department to Minister Hasan Mushrif, and State Excise portfolio to Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. ....

Maharashtra’s Labour Minister Dilip Walse-Patil has sought a written submission from the General Motors’ (GM) Employees Union and the management of the company detailing its stance on the issue of plant closure.
The labour minister asked the warring sides for submission at a hearing on Tuesday. Both sides have been given a week’s time to reply. The meeting was attended by the company management, labour union, and other representatives from the state’s labour department, said people who attended the meeting.
The workers’ union at the Talegaon factory and the GM’s management have been locked in a bitter legal feud since GM announced its decision to shutter the plant in December 2020. The closure will affect the livelihoods of close to 1,700 employed at the factory, according to Sandeep Bhegade, president of the union. ....

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], January 22 (ANI): The Serum Institute of India (SII) on Friday said the fire that broke in an under-installation building of the company s plant at Manjari in Pune will impact the production of BCG (Bacillus Calmette-Guerin) and Rota vaccines in future.

Mumbai: A day after a fire broke out in an under-construction building at the Serum India of Institute (SII), killing five people, CEO Adar Poonawalla has estimated the resultant financial loss to be Rs 1,000 crore but has clarified that there was no impact on the supply of the anti-coronavirus vaccine, Covishield, and its production would not be affected. However, other facilities involved in the production of rotavirus and BCG vaccines were damaged.
Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, who visited the SII facility on Friday and also met company Chairman Cyrus Poonawalla and his son Adar, said investigation would reveal whether it was an accident or sabotage. ....
