Direct airlinks with Africa still on agenda

Government is again signalling its intent to establish direct commercial airlift between Barbados and the African continent.Permanent Secretary in the Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Simone Rudder reiterated this desire on Monday morning during a virtual press conference to launch the inaugural virtual church service between the Anglican Diocese of Barbados and Accra, Ghana, scheduled for Sunday, August 22. The service, which will be hosted at St George Parish Church here and the Christ Church Legon, in Accra, will be held under the theme: Transforming the Middle Passage from an Abyss of Darkness to a Ray of Hope.Speaking to a panel that included Rector of the St George Parish Church, Senator Reverend Dr John Rogers and Rector of the Christ Church Legon, Archdeacon Ebenezer Layrea, Rudder addressed Barbados’ desire to foster stronger ties with Ghana. She said a linkage through commercial flights would be beneficial for both nations.

Social Share Attorney General Dale Marshall has been tasked with providing the Mia Mottley administration with a legal opinion on the civil and criminal liability associated with aspects of mandatory vaccination and mandatory testing for COVID-19. And the results of that paper will set the table for a series of sectoral and national consultations on the way forward as Government tries to find a solution to the vexing problem of respecting people’s rights to choose whether they want to be vaccinated, the overall health of the nation and getting the economy back on track as more employers are making vaccination a requirement for employment.

CTUSAB backs labour ministry on safety legislation

Social Share The Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados (CTUSAB), is standing in solidarity with Minister of Labour Colin Jordan who recently put employers on notice that health and safety committees would be implemented in the workplace. President of CTUSAB, Edwin O’Neal, during a media conference at the Barbados Union of Teachers’ Merry Hill, Welches, St Michael earlier today, said they had been in discussions with the private sector and Government to have a programme implemented at every institution and organisation on island. He noted the programme, which is set to be launched soon, would see those in the workplace trained in health and safety.
