Apr. 4 Decatur business operators said they’re ready for the state mask mandate to end Friday, but most plan to encourage customers and staff to continue mask wearing, at least in the short term.
Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey has said she’ll let the order requiring masks expire Friday.
“If Gov. Ivey drops the mask mandate, we’re not going to require masks to be worn,” said Charles Christopher, manager of Martin’s Family Clothing. “However, our associates will be wearing them for the time being. We’ll monitor other businesses and see how our customers react to any change. Presently, we encourage our customers to wear them. I believe most people are like me, we’re ready for most things to get back to normal.” ....

DECATUR, Ala. (WAFF) - Many businesses nationwide have been affected by COVID-19. Sam’s Sports Bar and Grille in Decatur is closing after 6 years, citing struggles linked to the pandemic.
Decatur Morgan County Chamber of Commerce President John Seymour says there have been a handful of restaurants that were forced to close because they were just not equipped to deal with COVID-19 guidelines.
Seymour says staffing has been the main issue. Many restaurants are forced to close and reopen because employees have been exposed to COVID-19. ....

MORGAN CO., Ala. (WAFF) - The coronavirus continues to strain local and federal resources, but the pandemic is also taking a toll on frontline healthcare workers.
An annual health forum in Morgan County became a high-stakes status report for the area’s hospital’s and healthcare employees.
Among the speakers was Decatur Morgan Hospital President Kelli Powers who says the hospital system is providing free counseling for workers to help with the mental strains of the ongoing pandemic. ....

Jesse Hagardt has been promoted to assistant IT Manager – Infrastructure, Jose Martinez has been promoted to assistant IT manager – engineering, and Garrett Rabe has been promoted to helpdesk team lead. All three will remain based at the company’s Tucson headquarters (432 S. Williams Blvd).
 
Hagardt joined the company in December 2009 and has 15 years of IT experience. He started as a Helpdesk Specialist and worked his way up to Network Engineer. In his new role, he will be in charge of all network infrastructure pieces as well as the Helpdesk team. Prior to joining Truly Nolen, Hagardt worked in IT for Cardonelet hospitals.  ....
