Ahead of the 2023 crucial general election, the factional fights for the soul of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State have again been rekindled by old foes and longtime political gladiators. THE Supreme Court on Friday declared the dissolution of local government councils in Oyo and Katsina states and their replacement with caretaker committees as illegal and unconstitutional.
The five-man panel of Justices of the apex court set aside the judgment of the Court of Appeal in Ibadan which approved the sack of the elected council officials in Oyo State by the governor, Mr Seyi Makinde.
It said the governor erred by sacking the elected council officials and replacing them with caretaker committees.
The sacked chairpersons, led by Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye, had approached the court to vindicate them, saying they were illegally sacked. ....

After two years, Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo state, sacked all the local government chairpersons in the state and appointed caretaker chairmen, the Supreme court, Friday declared the dissolution of the local government councils as illegal.
The apex court in its ruling today also declared the replacement of the council chairman with caretaker committees as unlawful.
Reacting to the ruling, the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare hailed the judgment, saying that the judgement was a landmark achievement in the present government’s hard work to deepen democracy at the grassroots. ....

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused some persons of “satanic plans” against the ruling party ahead of 2023.
The APC raised the alarm after a report on alleged bickering involving Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, and National Caretaker Chairman and Yobe Governor, Mai Buni.
The chieftains were accused of disagreement over who will occupy the seat of the President after the next general elections.
In a statement on Friday, Buni’s spokesman, Mamman Mohammed insists there is no conflict, adding that claim was false.
Mohammed said “the satanic plans being orchestrated by mischievous elements” were meant to distract the APC leadership and discredit the President Muhammadu Buhari led government. ....
