Since 2007, nearly 12,000 Minnesotans have been protected from abusive exes, stalkers, and others who’d do them harm by an innovative and effective but still, unbelievably, largely little-known address-confidentiality program.
Called Safe at Home, the state-run program assigns anyone who feels vulnerable or unsafe an alternative and anonymous P.O. Box, keeping their real address out of public records. The program confidentially sends participants’ mail to their actual addresses. In addition to the mail-forwarding service, their legal-in-every-way P.O. Box addresses can be used instead of their actual addresses for everything from registering to vote and getting a driver’s license to applying for a passport. ....

Nassau County Hosts Vigil Ceremony Honoring Victims of Crime and Local Change-Makers

Nassau County Executive Laura Curran and the Office of Crime Victim Advocate, in commemoration of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, were joined by New York Attorney General Leticia James, Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas, and community members for a Crime Victims’ Rights Vigil and Dome Lighting to raise awareness about crime victims’ issues and rights and introduce the community to the important resources and services available. In addition to their remarks, a vigil ceremony was held with community stakeholders, including victims of crimes and their families.
 
County Executive Curran presented honorary citations for Life After Loss A.N.D.R.E founders Stephanie Draine and George Greydon, and Assistant District Attorney Stephanie Palma, champions in advocating for expanded support and services for communities affected by crime. Sad ceremony brings comfort to those who lost loved ones to violence


EASTAMPTON - At a somber vigil marked by grief, tears and flickering candles, Yvonne Coates felt oddly at ease Sunday night.
It brings me comfort, as weird as that sounds, said the Pemberton Township woman, who joined a gathering of about 100 people who had lost loved ones to violent crime.
Everybody around me feels the same and you don t have to explain anything, she said of participants at an event organized by the Burlington County Prosecutor s Office.
Everybody has the the same hopes, they have the same sorrow, said Coates, whose gray hoodie carried a message for Norman Mosley, a nephew slain in a home-invasion robbery in September 2016. ....
