Dundee Rep virtually hosts Dùsgadh - a 'beautiful' film with Breabach score based on Scottish folktale The Sea Maiden

Breabach
Michael Alexander speaks to Monifieth-raised Calum MacCrimmon – founder member of internationally renowned folk band Breabach – which has teamed up with Scottish BAFTA-winning animator Cat Bruce to create a beautiful film and score based on Scottish folktale The Sea Maiden, being aired on February 13 with Dundee Rep.
During these strange and uncertain times, the “new normal” has taken its toll on people from all walks of life including musicians who, almost a year ago, suddenly found all their gigs cancelled.
Amongst them was Monifeth-raised musician Calum MacCrimmon who, as founding member of internationally renowned bagpipe-led folk band Breabach, went from a 2020 diary filled with concert and festival dates to something of an existential vacuum. ....

Grant's whisky distillers patriarch Sandy Grant Gordon dies aged 89

Mr Grant Gordon was also major supporter of piping although he was not a piper himself.
He was the personal sponsor of countless piping competitions and causes for more than 50 years, among them the Glenfiddich Championships, the Silver Chanter, the Captain John A MacLellan Memorial Medal, and the Piping Live! Glasgow International Festival of Piping.
He had a personal devotion to Scottish culture and piping in particular.
While many piping events were aligned with his various brands, he often contributed silently in the background, insisting on little or no recognition.
In the early-to-mid 1990s, he and his company were vital to the success of the fundraising for the National Piping Centre in Glasgow.  ....
