The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has said charging money for an entry permit (visa) for a person to come to the Sultanate is a form of human trafficking and a punishable offense.
This is in response to some cases where visas were said to be sold to people against some money apart from the regular fee that allowed them to come and work for any sponsor by paying in instalments or lump sum to the seller. This is an illegal act punishable with fines and jail term, the Criminal Investigations Department dealing with human trafficking crimes warned. ....

Oman Human Rights Commission probes Sierra Leone workers’ case

Muscat: Taking a note of the reports published by the International Organisation for Migration and the Guardian of Britain about the mistreatment of domestic workers of Sierra Leone in Oman, the Oman Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has followed up the case.
“The British Guardian had reported that the workers from Sierra Leone arrived to work in Oman based on an agreement with the recruitment agencies inside their countries on good salaries. Some workers had also agreed with the same agencies to work in European countries, though they were not informed that they would be taken to Oman to work as domestic workers ,”the OHRC said. ....

OHRC issues statement on Sierra Leone domestic workers

The Oman Human Rights Commission (OHRC), under its jurisdictions and responsibilities, followed up the report published by the International Committee for Migration and London Guardian concerning the complaints of mistreatment of domestic workers who had travelled from the Republic of Sierra Leone to work in Oman, a statement released by the OHRC said.
The British Guardian published that domestic workers who came from the Republic of Sierra Leone to work in Oman in different jobs based on agreements between them, and recruitment agencies inside their countries that offered good salaries. In addition, some workers agreed with the same agencies to work in European countries, without informing them that they are going to Oman to work as domestic workers. ....
