Free daily 1GB data to be extended until July 31

KUALA LUMPUR: To help the people cope with the digital transformation in the new normal, the free daily 1GB Internet data provided to customers will be extended until July 31.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) informed that the decision was agreed upon by the five major telecommunications service providers, namely Celcom, Digi, Maxis, U-Mobile and Telekom Malaysia (TM).
“This latest extension is given as an additional support to the people, courtesy of the telecommunication companies as the Covid-19 situation in the country is still not stable.
“This is also to help schoolchildren who will be switching back to home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) after Aidilfitri as announced by the Ministry of Education recently,“ MCMC said in a statement here, today. ....

LUMPUR: Malaysia is on the right path towards technological and digital transformation from smart cities to the National Digital Network (JENDELA) initiative, said international audit firm Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Ltd (DTTL).
Deloitte Malaysia government and public services leader Kamarul Baharin said the healthy budget of RM1 billion for digital transformation and RM7.4 billion for the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to increase broadband connectivity would definitely promote a digitally-driven economy.
“We are encouraged by Malaysia’s significant commitments and investments to adopt technological change.
“Coinciding with the global digital wave, governments globally should incorporate new thinking about how it delivers services to citizens,” he said in a statement today. ....

Microsoft regional data centre to create 19,000 jobs, says Muhyiddin


PUTRAJAYA: The establishment of Microsoft Corp s first datacentre region in Malaysia under its Bersama Malaysia Initiative” costing at least US$1 billion (US$1=RM4.127) over the next five years is expected to create 19,000 jobs, including 4,000 IT-related jobs among its cloud users.
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said according to the International Data Corporation, the ripple effects of the datacentre region investment could translate into US$6.90 (about RM28.47) of revenue generated in the local cloud ecosystem for every US$1 of Microsoft Malaysia’s cloud revenue by 2024.
Under the initiative, he said Microsoft has also formed five partnerships with government agencies and local companies, including the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU), Human Resources Development Fund, Petronas, Celcom, and Grab. ....
