“The need for a secure space to conduct forensic autopsies was highlighted last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.  We actually, in 2020, conducted over sixty percent of all our autopsies or post mortem exams here at the CAHSU morgue.  That was the first year, 2020 was the first year where majority of our post mortems were done here.  Prior to that, all the post mortems were done at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital Morgue.  Obviously, because of concerns about staff becoming infected, about concerns with contacts with COVID positive cadavers and high traffic of individuals we needed or we stood to benefit a lot from using this space at CAHSU.” ....

13 COVID-19 Related Deaths Reported Since Friday
Thirteen persons were recorded among the growing list of casualties of COVID-19 since Friday and over the extended Christmas weekend. Five deaths were reported between Christmas Day and Sunday, along with seventy-one new confirmed cases. Three additional deaths were reported on Monday, along with thirty new confirmed cases. Five new deaths were reported today with seventy-seven new confirmed cases. This brings the total number of COVID deaths to two hundred and forty-one. There are ten thousand, six hundred and sixty-eight confirmed cases. The total sum of active cases is now below one thousand, at eight hundred and eighty-three. These figures are cases prior to the long weekend of festivities. It is expected that a spike will be seen in the next coming days which would reflect the activities which occurred over the Christmas break. One of the persons who passed away over the weekend was Renie Hipolito ....

November 2020 Crime Analysis Report | The Guardian Newspaper


The Belize Crime Observatory (BCO) has issued a crime analysis report for the period January to November 2020. This report focuses on the major crimes category as a whole but also focuses on murders, property crimes (robbery, burglary, and theft), and sexual violence. There are also data sets on autopsies and incarcerations.
Despite seeing fluctuations in the reported incidents of major crimes, there was an overall 30% decrease for the months of January to November 2020, when compared to the same period last year. During this time, there were 818 major crimes reported, a reduction of 352 from the 1,170 incidents which were reported for this period in 2019. Of the 818 major crimes reports, around 80% of those were crimes of robbery, burglary, or theft. Robberies and burglaries saw the greatest decline, from 235 to 145 and 644 to 441 incidents respectively, while rape observed the least significant decline, from 28 to 25 incidents.
