Ascension Parish voters approve proposal to sell sewer service

Ascension Parish voters approved the sewer deal on the April 24 ballot.
The proposition passed with 4,308 yes votes (56 percent), while 3.347 voted no (44 percent), according to complete but unofficial results from the Secretary of State. The unofficial turnout was 9.2 percent.
Voters on the west bank, as well as parts of Geismar and Gonzales also could decide on the 2nd Congressional runoff between Troy Carter and Karen Carter Peterson. The remaining parish voters only had the parishwide proposition on their ballots.
The sewer deal allows the parish to sell its east-bank wastewater utility assets, excluding the corporate limits of the City of Gonzales and Town of Sorrento, and grant franchise to operate the system to National Water Infrastructure LLC. ....

Donaldsonville City Council gets update on parish sewer proposal

Ascension Parish Chief Administrative Officer John Diez addressed the Donaldsonville City Council during the April 13 meeting about the parishwide sewer proposal on the April 24 ballot.
Parish leaders have been on an informational campaign, both in-person and online, over recent weeks. Ultimately, voters will decide if the parish will enter into a deal to sell eastbank sewer assets and allow National Water Infrastructure to run a regional sewer system.
As pointed out by the administration in the past, Diez said the parish has spent $42 million subsidizing some 2,000 sewer customers in the last 10 years. In previous meetings, the parish council has discussed how regional sewer talks date back to the 1990s. ....

ASCENSION PARISH (WAFB) - Those living in Ascension Parish will vote on a new sewer agreement on Saturday, April 24.
The parish is proposing to sell the parish’s sewer assets and customers to National Water Infrastructure. The goal is to build a modern system serving the unincorporated areas of the east bank of Ascension Parish.
Parish officials said this would create more money for things like roads, drainage and recreation. Critics are worried about how much this could impact their monthly sewer rates. ....

ASCENSION - One of the four open houses took place and where the parish presented their plans to change the sewer system to residents.
For Ascension, their system has cost a pretty penny, over the past ten years they ve spent more than 42 million dollars on the sewer system, and now they re trying to lower that.

ASCENSION- Plans are in the works to stop dumping three million gallons of treated wastewater into Bayou Manchac and other scenic waterways as plans move forward in Ascension Parish with a parish-wide sewer for much of the east bank.
