Government recognises only 21% of activist murders registered by human rights groups
Although the figures differ significantly, the different sources agree on the most violent region for social activists, with the government registering more killings in the southwest region of Cauca than anywhere else, followed by Norte de Santander, Chocó and Putumayo.
 
The Colombian government has acknowledged only around a fifth of the number of murdered social activists registered by national human rights organisations in 2020, as shown by official findings released on 22 February.

The Members of the Security Council reiterated their full and unanimous support for the peace process in Colombia, underlining the important achievements made in four years since the signing of the Final Peace Agreement while recognizing that significant challenges remained. They reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with Colombia, as it moves into a milestone fifth year of peacebuilding, to consolidate progress towards the comprehensive implementation of the Final Peace Agreement, and welcomed both parties’ continued commitment to this end. India willing to support Colombia in its journey towards peace, progress


Commending the remarkable progress in the process of peacebuilding in Colombia, India on Thursday said it is willing to support Bogota in its journey towards peace, progress, and prosperity.
Speaking at United Nations Security Council s (UNSC) meeting on Colombia, TS Tirumurti, Indian Ambassador to the United Nations, said democracy in Colombia is deepening through increased political participation and applauded the efforts of the people and the Government of Colombia in realising the achievements of the last four years.
A peace deal was signed between the previous Colombian government of Juan Manuel Santos and the left-wing Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) in November 2016.
