April 6, 2021, ASUP decided to commence a nationwide strike action due to some issues. Can you explain some of the things that led to the strike?
The strike was predicated on the level of neglect by the government of the sector. The nine items include the non-constitution of governing councils of federal polytechnics since May last year and in so many other state polytechnics, where there are no governing councils in existence. The second item has to do with the non-implementation of the NEEDS assessment report of 2014 in all public polyt ....

ASUP: Federal Poly Offa joins nationwide strike, appeals to students

The Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, Offa in Kwara State, Dr Waheed Balogun, on Tuesday confirmed that his union had fully complied with the national directives of its parent body.
In a phone chat with DAILY POST, Dr Balogun, who described the strike as total, appealed to students affected by the action to bear with the union, as they will also benefit from its positive outcome.
He said, “It is unfortunate that until we embark on the strike action, the government will not be ready to dialogue with us.
“We gave the Federal Government almost one year ultimatum to act, but no action had been taken by the government till now,” Dr Balogun added. ....
