Sid Mastrangelo – husband, father, business owner, outreach volunteer and longtime organizer of car shows at the Big Lots parking lot on west State Road 200 – died from the effects of COVID-19. But the car show that he so loved is continuing down the road, just with different drivers.
Mastrangelo, 64, organized the Big Lots car shows for 15 years with his wife of 36 years, Debbie, and several car lover friends. His legacy of goodwill will live on, as fellow car buffs continue to stage the Big Lots shows. Sid loved to put on the car shows, Debbie Mastrangelo said. Her husband died on Christmas Day following a two-week bout with COVID-19.
One garage, two worlds: Classic Buick Riviera and hot rod Mustang

Don and Mary Martin have sweet rides from the best of two automotive worlds in their northwest Gainesville garage.
The coupe s 1985 Firemist metallic red Buick Riviera, original except for some minor cosmetic work, and supercharged 2017 Ford Mustang-dubbed Quicksilver represent the cream of the crop in an award-winning antique luxury car and high-performance late-model muscle car.
The mostly original, unrestored Riviera is an Antique Automobile Club of America national first-prize winner. The award was presented at the AACA Winter Meet held in Ocala in 2019.
The Mustang, painted Ingot Silver Metallic with red graphics, has a factory installed 5.0-liter Coyote engine with an aftermarket Borla exhaust system and Roush R2300TVS supercharger added by Burnyzz Classic American Horsepower of Ocala. The car develops 594 horsepower at the rear wheels, according to Don.
