More than 500 pounds of unused, unwanted or expired prescription drugs were collected on
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day â and that s from only two Utah police departments reporting their numbers so far.
More than 20 drop-off locations participated in Saturday s event, which gave people a chance to safely dispose of old or extra medication. Its ultimate goal was to help prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths.
The leftover prescription drugs are sent to the Drug Enforcement Administration, which will have them safely incinerated. ....

(4/24/21) University of the Pacific pharmacy student Shaneisa Mae Nalias places prescription drugs into a bin as a part of a local observance of 20th annual National Prescription Drug Take Back Day at the Stockton Police Operations Building in downtown Stockton. The event was an opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by providing a place for the public to drop off old or unused and unwanted prescription drugs. In addition to the downtown Stockton location, 3 additional drop off sites were available: Lincoln Center in Stockton, the Lathrop Senior Center and the Financial Services Parking lot in Lodi. (WBNG) Expired prescription drugs are making their way out of old medicine cabinets and into safe disposal bags as a way to get old medications out of peoples homes if they no longer need them.
The Southern Tier participated in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, and Broome County Police say the day helps to stop the once helpful medicine from getting misused.
Police say over 1,000 pounds of old medication has been collected within the last 6 months.
It gets it off of the street, so there s no supply for a black market, said Broome County Police Officer Willard Andres. ....
