Free Prescription Drug Take-Back Day Is Saturday

It s spring-cleaning time for medicine cabinets. Saturday is the 20th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, and many places in the area are offering a way to safely dispose of expired or unneeded medication.
The event is intended to help prevent prescription drug addiction and overdose deaths, which the Drug Enforcement Agency says can be sometimes traced to people s medicine cabinet. According to the 2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, millions of people misuse prescription pain relievers, stimulants and sedatives each year.
During the October prescription drug take-back event, the DEA says they collected over 492.7 tons of bottles, pills, patches and capsules across the country. Liquids, syringes, sharps and illegal drugs are not accepted. ....

Saying drug use is rising during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chicago branch of the federal Drug Enforcement Agency is urging people to dispose of unneeded prescription drugs on Saturday s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
Tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription drug can be dropped off at collection sites around the suburbs for disposal.

Liquids, syringes and other sharp devices, and illegal drugs will not be accepted. The DEA will accept vaping devices and cartridges if lithium batteries are removed.
Drop offs can be made between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at police departments including Aurora, Barrington, Batavia, Buffalo Grove, Carpentersville, Cary, Des Plaines, Elgin, Elk Grove Village, Elmhurst, Glenview, Lake In The Hills, Lake Zurich, Lombard, Mount Prospect, Palatine and Prospect Heights. ....

Agencies to participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

People wanting to clean out their medicine cabinets will have the opportunity this weekend to turn over old medications to local law enforcement officers for safe disposal.
Area law enforcement agencies will once again be participating in a National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Law enforcement officers will operate collection sites at various locations.
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is coordinated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
According to a DEA website, the goal of the event is “to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.” ....

GLOVERSVILLE The Gloversville Police Department Neighborhood Engagement Unit, in cooperation with Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery Prevention Council and the Rob Constantine Recovery Center, will host a drive-thru prescription take back from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and offer drive-thru Narcan training in the north parking lot of City Hall, between City Hall and the Fire Department, according to a news release.
The participants will be able to dispose of expired, unwanted, or unused prescription medications and/or receive Narcan training and supplies without leaving their vehicle.
