New Transitions program offered at the Boys and Girls Club of Lenawee

ADRIAN A newly added program, designed to teach teenagers about social, emotional and all other life skills, was added to the course itinerary earlier this month at the Boys and Girls Club of Lenawee.
“Transitions” is the name of the newly implemented program, which is a six-session program that aims to guide teens through the challenges and opportunities that come along with the “transitions” in young adulthood.
The program was added to the course itinerary at the club, 340 E. Church St., Adrian as part of National Prevention Week, May 9-15.
“Teens participating in the Transitions program, will build the skills needed to make good choices when it comes to drugs and alcohol, and understand the impact drugs and alcohol can have on their ability to manage stress, make decisions and assess risks,” a news release from the Boys and Girls Club of Lenawee said. “They will learn skills necessary to communicate effectively, manage time an ....

Light Marathon City Council agenda offers inspiring moments


The Marathon City Council convened on Tuesday, May 11, with a relatively light agenda, although several inspiring moments — not uncommon in small city council meetings — highlighted the evening.
Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay set the tone early by recognizing and introducing a “special guest,” Canine Coral, one of the department’s drug-sniffing dogs, who entertained those on hand with some brief scurrying and sniffing throughout the audience.
Later, Mayor Luis Gonzalez introduced 6-year-old Landry Sayer, a Stanley Switlick kindergartner who’d asked to address the city council with a short video, because “she was trying to make a difference,” as Gonzalez explained. What followed was a short, well-produced video on how this little “trash activist,” who walked her dog every night while also picking up trash, wanted to help clean up Marathon.
