SHC judge's proposed elevation to SC: PBC again announces countrywide strike for tomorrow

ISLAMABAD: The legal fraternity will again observe a complete strike on July 28 (tomorrow) across the country in view of reconsideration of elevation of a judge of the Sindh High Court to the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC), the apex body of the lawyer community, announced complete strike at all courts throughout the country on July 28, 2021 as a mark of protest against the proposed elevation of a junior Judge by ignoring four senior judges of the same high court as well as the principle of seniority, enshrined in various landmark judgments of the Supreme Court.
The announcement was made during an emergency meeting of the PBC executive committee, held here on Monday at the Supreme Court. The meeting was presided over by Fahim Wali Khan, chairman, and attended by members of the committee. ....

ISLAMABAD: Senior PPP leader and former senator A Rehman Malik has demanded immediate action from the Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir to address reservations of political parties about transparency of elections.
He said that political parties and contesting candidates have expressed serious reservations over the transparency of elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir to be held on Sunday. He urged the Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir to convene an emergency meeting to discuss this issue.
In a series of tweets on Saturday, he said according to some media reports, many political parties and contesting candidates have shown their reservations on the transparency of the AJK election. ....

MUZAFFARABAD: The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday issued a veiled warning to members of the federal cabinet and other visiting dignitaries from Pakistan against resorting to anything in violation of the ‘code of conduct’ for the polls set to be held on July 25.

MUZAFFARABAD: The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has allotted symbols to as many as 32 political and religious parties for the July 25 general elections.
A notification to this effect was issued by commission’s secretary Sardar Mohammad Ghazanfar here on Friday.
Prominent among the registered parties were the regional chapters of PML-N, PPP and PTI, which had been symbols of tiger, arrow and bat respectively.
Among the well known AJK based parties, All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference (MC), Jammu Kashmir Peoples Party (JKPP) and Jamaat-i-Islami Azad Jammu and Kashmir (JIAJK) had been allotted their desired symbols of horse, sword and scale respectively. ....
