Early voting underway in Oneida County
Early voting is underway for some primary races here in Oneida County, but there’s also some new faces at the Oneida County Board of Elections.

Oneida County has started early voting, and there are 4 primaries taking place. There are 3 Democrats running for the Deerfield Council, 3 Republicans running for New Hartford Town Clerk and Tax Collector, 2 Republicans running for Town Supervisor in Vienna, and 3 Republicans running for Superintendent of Highways in the Town of Western. There are also 2 new Board of Elections Commissioners who have started their new roles with some extra staffing approved by the Oneida County Legislature. Oneida County BOE Democrat Commissioner Sarah Bormann talked about the need for the new staff members.  ....

Reader's View: Voter accessibility in Rensselaer County


For almost three years now, we have been attempting to expose the lack of equity and accessibility to early voting sites for residents living in the City of Troy. The cry for media coverage related to, what many refer to as blatant voter suppression in Rensselaer County, has largely been ignored.
Last year, we joined with Senator Neil Breslin and Assemblyman John McDonald to pass legislation that would strengthen laws related to early voting. Our efforts were rewarded when the State’s Early Voting Law was amended, requiring Boards of Elections to locate early voting sites where a majority of the population lives making voting for citizens easier and more accessible. Rensselaer County did not comply. ....

Maneater | BEC "concerned" with Ready to Roar's allegations against Renew Mizzou


The Missouri Students Association Board of Elections Commissioners announced in a March 2 decision that it is “concerned” by the Ready to Roar slate’s allegations that the BEC unconstitutionally allowed the Renew Mizzou slate to file their candidacy.
Ready to Roar presidential candidate Will Shafer and vice presidential candidate Key Avingston-Banks said the extension of the filing date was unconstitutional in a video originally posted Feb. 28 on Shafer’s personal Instagram account.
“Thirty minutes before the deadline, and after receiving our information, the BEC … decided to extend a week,” said Shafer.
Avingston-Banks added that they found this extension “whole-heartedly unconstitutional.” ....

Five candidates are vying for the Ward 7 seat on the Bloomington City Council. But only two will appear on the ballot in the April 6 municipal election. This week, voters will determine who those finalists will be.
