ROCKPORT May 24 marked the last meeting of the Rockport Select Board that would be attended by Bill Post in the the role of Town Manager; the meeting was also the last which outgoing Select Board Chair Debra Hall and Selectman Jeff Hamilton would participate in as elected officials.
After nearly two year’s working for the municipality, Post announced his resignation as Town Manager last month. Last week Hall announced that Jon Duke, one of 11 applicants for the vacancy, was selected as Rockport’s next Town Manager for a three-year term and an annual salary of approximately $102,000. ....

The Rockport Select Board has received the resignation of Rockport’s Town Manager, William Post.
Rockport Select Board Chair Debra Hall said in a news release: Bill has been an excellent Town Manager during the 20 months he has been at the helm. His financial skills and wealth of experience from previous leadership positions have been valuable to the Town. Although we regret his departure, we support him and his decision.
“Bill has chosen to accept a position that he has long-desired, County Administrator for Sagadahoc County. Bill previously served as the County Administrator for Knox County. ....

Rockport officials reconsider excluding short-term rental regulations from June ballot

Members of the Rockport Select Board met March 8 and remained undecided as to whether or not an ordinance regulating short-term rentals in the municipality would be placed as a warrant article on the Town Meeting ballot in June.
Exactly one month prior, at a Feb. 8 meeting, the board voted 4 to 1 that the proposed ordinance would not not appear on the June ballot as originally intended, with board member Jeff Hamilton opposing.
At that meeting, Select Board Chair Debra Hall and board member Denise Kennedy-Munger – both of whom had created the draft ordinance with Ordinance Review Committee member Bob Hall – spoke in favor of “tabling” the draft ordinance from upcoming discussions. ....

The traditional New England town meeting has long been revered as a pure form of democracy, but decreased attendance, the pandemic and the rise of absentee balloting may mean the end of an era.
In the past year, many municipalities have forgone the town meeting process to vote on their budgets at the polls while others have come up with creative solutions including drive-in meetings. Towns have seen increased participation and easier access. Voters now can decide important issues with unprecedented convenience via absentee and mail-in ballots. ....
