From electric cars to solar and stormwater, how Des Moines is prioritizing sustainability in its clean energy goals

Four months after the Des Moines City Council approved a resolution calling for all the city’s homes and businesses to run on 100% clean energy by 2035, work is moving forward to begin the process of reaching that goal.
We spoke with Jeremy Caron, the city’s sustainable program director, to get an update on what’s been happening in the city’s mission to reduce its carbon footprint, which includes a reliance on renewable energy 24 hours a day, seven days a week. ....

COVID-19 in Iowa: Which school employees get vaccine first? It depends.

To be first in line to get vaccinations from their school district, staff in the Iowa City Community School District must be 50 or older and spend at least half the day at a school building.
In the Ames Community School District, teachers with medical conditions went to the front of the line.
In the Waukee Community School District, it s first come, first served.
School employees have been eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in Iowa since Feb. 1, when Phase 1B began in Iowa. But who gets the first doses of the scarce and sought-after vaccine and why they get to be first   differs from place to place. ....
