WDC adds online learning program for 2021-22 school year

Wadena-Deer Creek is planning a new distance learning program option for the 2021-22 school year that is similar to an online academy but students remain in the district.
The school board approved the Edmentum Online Learning Platform on April 19. Families who choose the distance learning option would be enrolled in this program. Students will have four core classes and two electives. The program provides state certified teachers for the classes. The district will also have a coordinator overseeing students.
The option of distance learning will likely be required again next school year, and some families have found they enjoy this style, as Superintendent Lee Westrum said. The hope is also that students who attend other online academies will join WDC’s online academy instead, and possibly interest homeschool families. ....

At Wadena-Deer Creek, hybrid learning with alternating days for 7-12th graders and in-person learning Monday to Thursday for pre-K-6th graders resumed on Jan. 19. Students in K-12th grade have distance learning Fridays.

With the number of COVID-19 cases in the Wadena-Deer Creek schools in “really good shape at the moment,” hybrid learning is continuing, as Superintendent Lee Westrum said. And if cases remain low, 7-12th grade students will return to four days of in-person learning on Feb. 1.
Students returned to hybrid learning on Jan. 19 after a two week distance learning period. Students in pre-K-6th grade have in-person classes Monday to Thursday with kindergarten-6th graders having distance learning on Fridays. Seventh-12th graders alternate in-person days with Fridays also a distance learning day. ....
