Budget and re-opening roadmap highlight spring sitting of legislature

A provincial budget that protects, builds and grows Saskatchewan and a Re-Opening Roadmap that charts a course through the end of the pandemic based on high vaccination rates were the highlights of the spring legislative sitting, which wrapped up today in Regina.

Premier Scott Moe said the 2021-22 Budget provides historic investments in health, education, infrastructure and economic recovery, while at the same time continuing work toward the government s commitment to balance the budget by 2026-27.

We have a framework in place to ensure Saskatchewan has a strong economic recovery coming out of the pandemic, Moe said. We now have a roadmap to lead those reopening efforts, bring back jobs, and get Saskatchewan back on the path of strong economic growth, where we were before the pandemic started. ....

Government being called on to fulfill election promise on hiring more healthcare workers

Three Saskatchewan unions which represent health care providers are asking the Government of Saskatchewan to mark National Nursing Week by following through on a promise to hire more workers.
Tracey Sauer says Continuing Care Assistants do the bulk of hands on care in long term care, Not only have CCAs suffered from years of under staffing but during the past year, they have also experienced some of the highest risks of contracting COVID-19.”
One of the province’s election promises was to hire 300 additional Continuing Care Assistants. Sauer also says that since 2015 the province’s population for those 75 years of age and older has risen by more than 10 per cent but the number of full-time equivalent positions in the CCA classification has decreased. ....

SHA opens new adult mental health short stay unit at Saskatoon hospital

SASKATOON
The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) has opened a new adult mental health short stay unit at the Royal University Hospital (RUH) in Saskatoon.
“This new space will be conducive to adult short stay mental health treatment and recovery, and a complement to our longer-stay adult inpatient unit at Dube Centre as well as our other mental health services around the province,” SHA’s CEO Scott Livingstone said in a news release.
According to the SHA, the new permanent seven-bed unit was designed for patients 18 to 64 years old who are medically stable and have a predicted length of stay of less than seven days. The unit is staffed by two nurses providing around the clock support as well as two Continuing Care Aides providing support 16 hours a day and security services. Dedicated Psychiatry is on-site five days a week, with evenings and weekends covered by the on-call psychiatrist, the SHA said. ....
