Yangchen Dolkar, a Tibetian-Indian resident of
Vasanth Nagar is easily the area’s most loved animal rescuer. She has lived in the city for 20 years now and manages a network of vets, hospitals, shelter homes and
volunteers who have helped rescue
animals.
She gathers leads on animals around the city that need help and sends them to volunteers who can help them at the soonest. She has also learned
Kannada to help her collaborate with local rescuers and volunteers.
Dolkar also participates in rescue missions herself. Sometimes, she even travels as far or beyond 20 kilometres to help when required. Dolkar’s calling to become an animal rescuer began almost 10 years ago when she rescued a dog near her former home on Queen’s Road. Since then, she has built a very active network of animal rescuers around the entire city. ....

40% of ration shops in Delhi were found closed: food rights body

‘Only 44 of 110 shops were functioning’
According to an audit of ration shops conducted by the Delhi Rozi Roti Adhikar Abhiyan, 40% of the shops visited by volunteers were found closed during working hours. Of the 110 shops visited by the volunteers, only 44 were found to be distributing grains to ration cardholders.
The audit of the ration shops was conducted between May 15 and May 20 across the city including, locations like Chirag Delhi, Mangolpuri, Kalkaji, New Seemapuri, Begumpur and Greater Kailash among other areas, the DRRAA said.
“Nearly 40% ration shops that were visited [43 out of 110] were closed during working hours. Only 44 shops were found to be distributing grains to cardholders. Over 23 ration shops at the time of our visit claimed that they were awaiting the full stock of ration,” the report said. ....

NEW DELHI: Loneliness and a deepening sense of uncertainty has hit the senior citizens like never before during the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic, according to the analysis based on interactions with over 5,000 elderly during the past one month by volunteers of Agewell Foundation. It has released data to flag mental health concerns with over 82% of the eldery complaining of anxiety due to rising Covid-19 cases and casualties around them.
Around 70.2% of respondents were found suffering from sleeplessness or insomnia or nightmares due to poor quality of sleep. During the past month, it was also found that 63% of the elderly developed symptoms of depression due to loneliness and social isolation and unceasing stress The analysis is based on feedback collected between April 10 and May 10. ....
