There once was a time when car shoppers could go to a dealership and order a new model from the manufacturer in the color and with the specific options that they desired.
Paul Gerbi of Torrington did just that in 1976 at a Pontiac dealer in Thomaston. He then waited, and waited, and waited some more for the car to be built and delivered.
“I bought it in like September and it came in two days before Christmas,” Gerbi recalled earlier this week as he stood in front of the car that he has owned for nearly 45 years. “They told me like eight weeks and it turned out, I think, to be 11 or 12. I was going crazy, yeah.” ....
