Centre eases rules for renewal of OCI cards

Overseas Citizens of India will now be required to renew their cards only once at the age of 20 instead of multiple times, the Centre announced on Thursday.
Overseas Citizenship of India is an immigration status that allows foreigners of Indian-origin to live and work in India indefinitely. This status is not available to applicants whose parents, grandparents or great-grandparents are from Pakistan. Before the OCI scheme was launched in 2005, members of the diaspora could obtain Person of Indian Origin status.
With its latest announcement, the home ministry has simplified the rules for issuing OCI cards, as earlier they had to be renewed each time the person got a new passport till the age of 20. After the person turns 50, the OCI card had to be renewed again “in view of biological changes in the face of the applicant”. ....

Justice Govind Mathur has retired as the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court.
Originally from Rajasthan High Court, Justice Mathur was transferred to the Allahabad High Court in November 2017. He served as a Chief Justice of the High Court for a little over two years.
In this short span, Justice Mathur made his mark as a fearless defender of personal liberty and human rights. In his farewell speech delivered yesterday in a virtual function, Chief Justice Mathur said that he was inspired by the ideals of Dr BR Ambedkar, with whom he incidentally shares his birthday. ....

JAMMU, Apr 14: Even six months after the appointment of its Chairperson, the Jammu and Kashmir Water Resources Regulatory Authority is finding it difficult to function properly as the Union Territory Government is not showing any seriousness in appointment of Members without which important decisions cannot be taken.
Moreover, adequate manpower has not been posted in the Authority which otherwise has an important role to play for regulating and ensuring judicious, equitable and sustainable management, allocation and utilization of water resources.
In the year 2010, the legislature of the then State of Jammu and Kashmir had enacted Water Resources (Regulation and Management) Act and this law was adapted by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs after bifurcation of the then State into two Union Territories for effective management of water resources. ....

New Delhi, April 8: Kashmirs entertainment-deprived population would have a sigh of relief as and when Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinhas government unfolds the J&K Film Policy-2021 anytime in the current month. Parallel to attracting producers and directors from across the country for shooting their films in the valley, it envisages revival of the entertainment industry at a large scale.
LG Sinha presided over a high level meeting in Jammu on Wednesday to review the proposed J&K Film Policy-2021. Most of the senior bureaucrats, including Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam, Financial Secretaries and Principal Secretaries, participated in the meeting. ....
